Why Cumberland Co?

Under “Why Move to Tennessee”, I outlined how Tennessee epitomizes one word…QUALITY (of life).  If Tennessee is high-quality living, then Cumberland County represents quality of life living at its finest, especially to the outdoors enthusiast.  While many Quality of Life Indicators exist, it is extremely rare to find most of them, at least the important ones. in a single locale; let’s take a closer look:

Location:  Just look at a map and you will see that Cumberland County, TN is centered perfectly in the eastern portion of the US.  A long day’s drive of 500 miles will take you south to the Florida panhandle, north to Detroit, MI, west to the Ozark Highlands, or the east to the South Carolina Beaches.  Sisters, mothers, children, grandchildren, colleges, vacations, and sporting events are all only a day away.  Outside of the populated and commercialized Smokey Mountains, Cumberland County boasts the three highest peaks in Tennessee.

Weather: Cumberland County is wholly located on the Cumberland Plateau (1900’ to 3300’ elevation) which produces four distinct seasons and a mild climate all year round.  Temperatures range from an average high in July of 84 degrees to an average low in January of 30 degrees.  And while we get abundant precipitation (on average 55” of rain and 10” of snow), we still manage over 200 days of sunshine.  The elevation provides low humidity and a constant breeze.  Find that somewhere else!

Atmosphere: The County attracts high-quality residents, generally helpful with a great attitude, work ethic, and outlook on life.  The Crossville (County Seat) downtown is thriving with numerous “mom and pop” restaurants, shops, and attractions.  Southern hospitality abounds here, everyone greets one another (every time) and you might hear an errant car horn once a year, and it’s always an out-of-state license plate!  In short, life is good here, it’s slower, but not too slow and that equals “just right”.

Activities:  We have put together a partial listing of activities to do here , but I will rattle off just a few here. We have mud bog, dirt, drag and ARCA (Coming) racetracks, renowned playhouse, fiddler barn, military museum, state park, hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, four-wheeling, two wineries, 9 golf courses, and more nature, acreage, animals, and wildlife than any one person could possibly enjoy.

Cost of Living: While Tennessee’s cost of living is impressively low, Cumberland County’s cost of living is all but believable.  This County’s Cost of Living Index is only .817, in other words, for every dollar you spend in Cumberland County, you will save 18.3 cents over the average community in the US which can buy you a lot more QUALITY here.  One 6600 sqft house in Cumberland County has annual property taxes of $1151.00!  Again, a lot of Quality.

Conclusion: I have twenty (20) moves under my belt and lived just about everywhere, but this is our final move, as we have not found a better place to live than Cumberland County, Tennessee…QUALITY!

Help Us Keep Our Roads Safe!Dear Neighbors,This is a friendly reminder that the speed limit on Renegade Mountain roads is 25 mph, unless otherwise posted by the RMCC. Some of our neighbors have graciously donated and posted signs to remind residents and visitors of this fact.As the weather gets warmer and there is more traffic in our small community, it is especially important to be mindful of our speed limit. Our community is growing and we have more families with small children, hikers, bicycles and pets sharing the road. Please be aware of your speed and give yourself extra time to drive up and down our beautiful community.Thank you,Renegade Mountain Community ClubThis post is intended for social and informative purposes only to the residents, guests and property owners in Renegade Resort.
